Warmer Homes Fund
Energy Action Scotland secured funding of £749,997 which it then made available to Energy Action Scotland member organisations who work with fuel poor households in Scotland.
The Warmer Homes Fund aimed to support Energy Action Scotland members to meet local needs. For example, it provided physical measures where the householder might be classed as vulnerable but yet failed to meet the qualifying criteria for other fuel poverty programmes, or where funding already available might not allow completion of all of the required works.
Nine projects across Scotland were successful in securing funding for measures that make homes warmer and reduce fuel bills. They included heating systems and thermostatic radiator valves, cavity wall and solid wall insulation, and solar PV panels.
Here are a few examples of work carried out as a result of this project.
One project set out to provide traditional measures such as loft and cavity wall insulation and draught-proofing. However, it received more eligible referrals than expected for solid wall insulation (external and internal). Recipients were identified via existing projects and partnerships and did not qualify for other energy efficiency schemes. All properties were hard to treat – almost all were off the gas grid – and all clients were vulnerable.
Another initiative offered new heating systems, heating and control upgrades and boiler replacements. Clients were all vulnerable but did not qualify for help via other energy efficiency schemes. Customer satisfaction surveys showed 100% positive feedback.
An inner city project aimed to put double and secondary glazing into homes. All properties were tenemental – some in a conservation area – and all clients were vulnerable and again were not eligible for other energy efficiency schemes.
The value of the work of the nine projects is reflected in some of the comments received as a result of their efforts:
“Our baby girl’s room is no longer cold. We really appreciate the insulation, thank you.”
"This scheme has given vital support to cancer patients allowing them to enjoy ‘worry free’ affordable, reliable heating at home at a time when it is needed most.”
"…. explained everything before and after the job. Nothing was too much bother or effort for anyone.”
