Community Energy Action Awards – Applications Invited

The national charity Energy Action Scotland, with support from Scottish Gas, is launching a Community Energy Action Awards scheme.

The new awards scheme is open to not-for-profit organisations who work with communities in Scotland to improve energy efficiency and make homes more affordable to keep warm.

Six awards of £1,500 are on offer to provide support and to help promote projects, allowing them to add value to existing activities.

The awards are being launched at a forum (16 June) hosted in Edinburgh by Energy Action Scotland and Scottish Gas.  More than 70 frontline workers, who help people including the most vulnerable with energy advice, have been invited to attend the event.

Development Manager for Energy Action Scotland, Barbara Atterson said: “The awards aim to acknowledge and highlight the significant contribution made to tackling fuel poverty by local communities and projects across Scotland.

“We know from our links with frontline workers and local organisations that they play a vital part in supporting clients who struggle to make ends meet.    These awards, funded by Scottish Gas, will help to support their work.”

It is expected that a variety of projects, activities and events relating to affordable energy in the home and energy efficiency will be successful in the Community Energy Action Awards.

Lesley Avinou, Scottish Gas, said: “We’re pleased to be working with Energy Action Scotland to help more people stay safe and warm in their homes.

“We hope to reach as many local organisations as possible to make sure that the people and communities who need our support most can apply for the awards.”

All applications for the Community Energy Action Awards must be made using the Awards Scheme Application Form which can be found on Energy Action Scotland’s website and the closing date is 29 July.
